Back to the classics. And it doesn't get much more classic than this:

Judy Garland introduced the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in the 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis, directed by her soon-to-be husband, Vincente Minnelli. If you think the song is a bit sad now, consider the fact that Hugh Martin's original lyrics included the lines "Have yourself a merry little Christmas/It may be your last/Next year we may all be living in the past." Needless to say, those words didn't make it into the film. If they had, the song probably would not have become a perennial favourite, and Garland might not have sung it again on the Christmas edition of The Judy Garland Show, which aired in 1963.

You really owe it to yourself to watch the whole thing, original commercials and all. Garland is in fine voice, even if...well, it would be impolite to speculate on her state of sobriety. Her kids get in on the act, too, with Liza Minnelli and a very young Lorna Luft turning in admirable performances. As for little Joey Luft, let's just say that he seemed like a nice kid.

Glee fans, incidentally, will no doubt recognize that set.
