YP Letters: Distraction technique over fracking menace

From: Heather Stroud, Gilling East, North Yorkshire.
Should fracking take place in North Yorkshire?Should fracking take place in North Yorkshire?
Should fracking take place in North Yorkshire?

BY focusing on the alleged anti-social behaviour of protesters at Kirby Misperton KM8 site, one is subtly persuaded to look this way and not that.

It’s an age-old technique used by Government spin doctors, and by corporate PR teams, who employ scaremongering tactics to get ‘their’ message across.

“Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction that can be deployed within 45 minutes”. This was the false mantra that took us into a war with Iraq.

The current mantra is “We need energy security”.

No mention here of food or water security. Control the narrative and you control the people.

The significance of the challenge to Third Energy’s KM8 site is that it opens the gate to fracking all over the UK. Fracking is not a just local issue. It has implications that are national and international. The mantra of ‘energy security’ is not even credible.

The allegations against protesters are not only
factually incorrect, they are
not even relevant.

In reality, most protesters represent people who have conducted their own research and by and large are more socially responsible and, as such, motivated to take action to protect their community.
