REPORTER: STEVE, IT IS MESSY ACROSS SOUTHERN MAINE, WITH DEGREE IN THE STREETS AND STILL THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, AS HE MENTIONED, WITHOUT POWER, SOME BECAUSE OF BIG TREES THAT HAVE FALLEN AND OTHER BECAUSE OF BRANCHES THAT HAVE HIT POWER LINES IN THE RIGHT PLACES, BUT WE HAVE REALLY SEEN THIS DAMAGE OUT AND ABOUT AFTER THE THUNDERSTORMS MOVED ON THROUGH IN A LINE ACROSS SOUTHERN MAINE. NOW, HERE IN HIRAM, ONE OF THE TOWNS THAT EXPERIENCED A GOOD AMOUNT OF DAMAGE NEARLY A DOZEN , FALLEN TREES RIPPED DOWN POWER LINES ALONG ROUTE 160 AND KEPT THE ROAD CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOURS WHILE CMP REPAIRED THE DAMAGE. THE KEZAR FALLS FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYING WHETHER IT WAS A MICROBURST OR NOT. ALL THEY KNOW IS THAT MANY IN THEIR TOWN WERE WITHOUT POWER ON A HOT AND HUMID NIGHT. >> WE HAVE TREES AND WIRES DOWN ALL ALONG ROUTE 160 IN HIRAM AND PORTER, AS WELL. THE ROADWAY IS BEING CLEARED RIGHT NOW OF TREES AND OTHER DEBRIS. REPORTER: NOW, THE GOOD NEWS IS AS WE WORKED OUR WAY THROUGH SOUTHERN MAINE TONIGHT, AT EVERY POINT WHERE WE STOPPED TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE, IT SEEMED LIKE CMP WAS ON THE SCENE OF ASSESSING THE DAMAGE AND WORKING TO FIX IT, SO THAT IS GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE STILL WAITING TO HAVE THEIR POWER RESTORED. MEANWHILE, IN BALDWIN, CREWS RESPONDING TO A FIRE. OFFICIALS SAY IT WAS CAUSED BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE. IT HAPPENED AROUND 7:15 P.M., CREWS EVEN CALLING IN MUTUAL AID TO PUT IT OUT, GET THE STORM LEAVING OVER 6000 CMP CUSTOMERS WITHOUT POWER AT LAST CHECK, BUT CREWS WORKING DILLIGENTLY TO RESTORE POWER OVERNIGHT TO AS

A powerful line of storms brought heavy rain, lightning and strong winds to parts of southern and western Maine on Monday.The storms triggered tornado warnings in New Hampshire before moving into Maine on Monday afternoon.In Maine, the storms knocked down trees in Limington, Buxton, Baldwin and Gorham. Storm damage was also reported in the Hiram area, including reports of six trees down on the west shore of Clemons Pond.Central Maine Power reported more than 5,200 outages as of 8:30 p.m. Most were in Cumberland and York counties.
